FRIENDS OF BEDFORD COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

Bedford County Animal Shelter is the public Animal Control facility for Bedford County.  It is the location where County Animal Control Officers bring stray animals picked up around the county.  VA State Law requires every county to maintain such a facility.  In Bedford County, the Animal Control Officers are deputies and report to the Sheriff's Department.  The Animal Shelter is under the supervision of the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Pursuant to VA State Law, strays brought into BCAS must be held for a minimum of 5 days giving the owner an opportunity to reclaim them.  After the required holding time the animals, if not reclaimed, can be put up for adoption.  Sometimes other shelters or rescue groups have space to have animals transferred to them.

Currently there is an amazing group of volunteers who work in conjunction with the BCAS staff to promote the adoptable animals.  They tirelessly promote these animals on Facebook and network with area rescues, including breed-specific rescues, to try to get as many of them as possible into safe situations.

Their efforts have made a huge difference for the animals at BCAS.  Like their Facebook page and keep up with all the great things they're doing ... Friends of the Bedford Co Animal Shelter
