About Okey

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Brown/Chocolate with White

Here are some very important things you need to know about this handsome boy named Okey - HE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

Approximate age/birthdate:  born early 2010

Weight/size:  40 lbs

Housebroken:  YES – so far he doesn’t “ask” to go outside but if he is given the chance to go outside regularly, there are no accidents

Crate trained:  YES

Personality: Okey is just a happy, loving, sweet-natured little guy.  He listens well and is easy to live with.  He gets along well with other dogs but he is very people-oriented.  He loves to just be close to you.

Energy level:  Medium with bursts of high.  On his own he’s pretty low-key but he will run like the wind when playing with his foster siblings.  He will do best with an active family that will include him in their fun and games.

Fenced yard required?:   YES – unless you will take him for at least an hour walk each day.  He is a young, athletic boy that needs more exercise than a couple of 10 minute walks to go potty.

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk:  YES

Obedience training:  Knows ‘sit,’ will come when called

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK – sometimes drools just a little at first

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES

Social with cats:  Would be better in a home with no cats … he likes to chase them

Good with children: YES – better size pup for older children – he may topple toddlers with his lab happiness

Adoption fee:  $175

Okey had a pretty rough start in life but you would never know it by his attitude.  He was dropped off at the pound at an early age with some siblings.  He was the last to be adopted and several months later he found himself back in the same pound because his owner had almost starved him to death.  At 7 months old he was found on less than a foot of chain with no food or water and he weighed only 19 pounds.  Thankfully the Animal Control officers took him away from the owner.  After his time was up in the pound we brought him into rescue and he has been the perfect foster pup.  He is so loving and happy and just joyful.  The most obvious long-term effect of his neglect is his size.  Due to being nutritionally deprived during the formative months, his growth has been somewhat stunted.  He will probably never get larger than 40-45 pounds.  He really enjoys having other dogs to play with but what he wants most is a human family to love him and appreciate him for the sweet boy he is.  Take a look into those beautiful eyes and he will touch your heart.

If you think Okey might be the perfect pup for you, please go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org, click on Forms/Application and complete your adoption application online.

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have 10 or more applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if Okey picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.

Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com or call 434 841 0411 or 540 297 1590 if you have additional questions.
