ZEUS IS A SPECIAL NEEDS BOY.  HE IS WILL NIP WITHOUT WARNING.

Zeus is definitely a cute little guy, but he has been a ‘frequent flyer’ at the local doggy jail because he seems to like to wander.  He thinks being so cute will get him off the hook.  He is loving (once he gets to know you and trusts you), but he is NOT a snuggly lapdog.  He is pretty quiet for a little guy.  He does well with other dogs, as long as people take time to properly introduce them!  He is not a true lap dog, and he doesn't demand, require or even like lots of in-your-face attention.  He does prefer a calm, laid back environment.  A new family will need to have lots of patience to let him get used to new people.

Zeus seems to have lived his life without a lot of loving human contact.  He is not always sure how to handle people who want to be close to him.  He is especially reactive when people get around his face and ears and his front feet.  He is a challenge for the most experienced groomer as well.

Housebroken:  YES (as long as you do your part and let him out often)

Crate trained:  YES

Personality:  a little reserved, takes some time to warm up to new people.  If anyone tries to crowd his space too quickly, he will snap.  He will never be a dog that anyone can just run up to and grab.

Energy level:  medium to low

Fenced yard required?:   YES (a physical fence, no underground fence) so he can have a safe place to wander and explore off-leash.  He does have a history of wandering!

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk with manners:  YES

Obedience training:  No but he does respond well to positive interaction

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK     

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES

Social with cats: Curious about them but doesn’t seem to want to hurt them

Good with children:  NO KIDS (he will nip if anyone gets in his space/face when he is not ready)

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Zeus picks you too.
