About Ford

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: White

Hi … my name is Ford! Please take a minute to read my entire bio to find out everything you need to know about me.

If you think I might be the perfect pup for you, go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete the adoption application online.

Oh Ford!  This handsome boy is quite a character and absolutely full of himself … in a good way, of course.  Full of energy and personality, he can be both entertaining and tiring.  His original owner realized that all his puppy energy was too much for her.  And he loves, loves to be close to his people ... sort of a velcro dog. An active family with lots of time to spend with him and a fenced yard will be perfect.  Having another young, energetic dog in the family who would love to play with Ford would be a nice bonus!

Ford is still very much a puppy with puppy energy. He is getting better at calming himself after a good play session so that he is good inside the house.

Ford came from a pet store who got him from a breeder.  Included in his adoption package are verifications that both parents were examined and certified have normal cardiovascular exams and no evidence of patellar luxation.

Remember that both Poodles and Golden Retrievers are working dogs, so they need something to do to. Exercising their bodies and their minds make them happy. Pet parents need to channel that energy in healthy ways to help your puppy develop good skills for adult life.  Long walks, play sessions off-leash inside your fenced yard, obedience classes, scent-training through games … all ways to help him grow into a well-balanced, happy dog. And all of these activities will strengthen your bond with Ford.

Ford is a 2nd generation (F2) Goldendoodle.  His mother is a Goldendoodle and his father is a Standard Poodle. Ford is still young, but from what we have seen so far, when his coat is groomed shorter, it is very curly and 'poodle-y.' When he came to us (ungroomed), his head/face area was curly and the back and legs had a longer, straighter coat, more like the Golden Retriever, and he definitely has the happy-go-lucky personality … but this could just be his goofy ‘puppy’ shining through.  As with all doodles, Ford will require at least monthly professional grooming in addition to daily/weekly combing/brushing at home to keep his coat healthy and mat-free.  As you can see from his 'before groom' picture, once the mats are there, shaving is the only option because the mats are unhealthy and painful to the skin. Lucky for him he is very handsome shaved down.  Guess it's impossible to hide natural good looks!

Approximate age/birthdate:  Dec 10 2021

Weight/size:  ~42 lbs (and growing)

Housebroken:  Working on it, and does well as long as you do your part and take him out often.  He is recently neutered and may still try to ‘mark’ his territory in inappropriate ways for a while.

Crate trained:  YES

Personality:  happy, outgoing, rowdy, curious, playful

Energy level:  high puppy energy, especially if he has a rowdy playmate, but he does settle down

Fenced yard required?:  Definitely preferred for fun and his safety.  He should never be off-leash outside a securely fenced area.

Does he/she jump fences?  NO but he definitely could if he wanted to - he is very athletic

Leash walk with manners:  Working on it … the puppy energy is still hard to harness some days

Obedience training:  Not yet but he seems to learn new things quickly

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES

Social with cats:  Has not been around cats in foster care, but most cats will probably not appreciate his energy

Good with children:  Ford might love children, but he may not be the right fit for all children due to his energy, size and strength.  Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up.

Adoption donation:  $300

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Ford picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed. Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.
