About Bear

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: White

Hi … my name is Bear! Please take a minute to read my entire bio to find out everything you need to know about me.

If you think I might be the perfect pup for you, go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete the adoption application online.

Bear is a happy, wiggly, sweet Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu mix boy who likes to play and give kisses and eat treats!  This adorable little man came from a home with more than a few other dogs and at least one person who loved him.  True to his breed mix, Bear is energetic, smart, and will be a great little companion … and he needs a loving pet parent who will give him rules and boundaries and lots of positive reinforcement!  You can often see the mischief in his eyes, and there is a real smile on his face when he is happy!

Bear would love to have a fenced yard to play in and maybe even another small dog to play with.  One of his least favorite things is being left alone!

Both Bichons and Shih Tzus require both daily/weekly brushing at home and at least monthly professional grooming to keep their coats healthy and mat-free. Double coats are generally longer and softer on top and coarse underneath, and require daily combing or brushing to prevent matting. Once matted, those mats are painful to their skin, and shaving them is the only option – as you can see from Bear’s pictures.

Approximate age/birthdate:  ~August 2018

Weight/size:  15 lbs (and he needs to NOT gain more weight)

Housebroken:  Working on it, and does well as long as you do your part and take him out often.  He is recently neutered and may still try to ‘mark’ his territory in inappropriate ways for a while.

Crate trained:  YES

Personality:  happy, curious, loving, busy

Energy level:  medium (with some bursts of high)

Fenced yard required?:  Definitely preferred for fun and his safety.  He should never be off-leash outside a securely fenced area.

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk with manners:  Working on it … leashes and leash walking seem to be new to him

Obedience training:  Knows ‘sit’

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES

Social with cats:  Has not been around cats in foster care

Good with children:  Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up.

Adoption donation:  $275

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Bear picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed. Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.
