About Lance

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)

Hi … my name is Lance (aka Houdini)! Please take a minute to read my entire bio to find out everything you need to know about me.  If you think I might be the perfect pup for you, go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete the adoption application online.

Look at that adorable little fuzzy terrier face!  Can you see the terrier mischief in the eyes?  We were told that when the Animal Control Officers brought him and his friends to the shelter, they left them in the locked vehicle while they unlocked the shelter door, but when they turned around, Lance was standing at the door with them.  Note to self:  he can open vehicle windows and jump to freedom!  Now, if you are familiar with adorable fuzzy terriers, this probably does not surprise you at all!

We don’t know a lot about Lance’s former life, but we do know he can be super friendly and suddenly become super skittish.  He has shown NO signs of aggression when he gets scared. He will always go into ‘flight’ mode to get away from whatever makes him uneasy.  We have learned that loud noises, loud voices, and lots of activity and quick movements are things that make him uneasy.

Some things Lance really needs in his new forever home:

A secure physically fenced yard (at least 5’ tall)

A new forever family with experience working/living with skittish, insecure dogs

A family willing to take him to obedience classes for training and socialization

A quiet, settled home with people who will spend time with him and help him feel secure

Possibly another dog similar to his size and energy who can help teach him how good life can be

Approximate age/birthdate:  Jan 7 2020

Weight/size: 25 lbs

Housebroken:  YES as long as you do your part and take him outside regularly.  Having a consistent schedule for potty breaks makes it easier for them to be successful!  He is recently neutered and may still try to ‘mark’ territory.

Crate trained:  YES

Personality:  sweet, reserved at first, looking for affection, skittish at times

Energy level:  medium/high. He does need daily exercise – brisk walks, play time in a fenced yard, play time inside.  He should never be outside a fenced area off-leash.

Fenced yard required?:   YES – a physical fence, at least 5’ tall – NO EXCEPTIONS.  When he gets scared, he goes into ‘flight mode’ and the fence is for his protection.  He should not be left outside alone; he will get bored and look for an escape route.

Does he/she jump fences?  Not so far, but he is very athletic and probably could climb or jump a lower fence.

Leash walk with manners:  He is learning to leash walk and is getting better.  He needs to be in a secure harness that he can’t slip out of.

Obedience training:  NO, but he seems to be a pretty smart little guy and learns quickly

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES, he has lived with other dogs and has been good with his foster friends.  Proper introductions are always necessary.

Social with cats: Has not been around cats in foster home, but most terriers have enough prey drive that they love to chase cats.  Probably better in a home with no cats

Good with children:  Will probably be best with respectful, calm children ages 10 and up.  He does not do well with a lot of activity and/or loud noises/voices around him.  He has not been around young children in foster care so we do not know how he would react.

Adoption donation:  $225

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Lance picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed. Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.
