About Magic

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog

June 16, 2023 was a great day for sweet Magic!  He found his new forever home.  Happy Life little man!

Hi … my name is Magic! Read my bio to find out everything you need to know about me.

If you think I might be the perfect pup for you, go to www.allamericanmuttrescue.org/forms and complete the adoption application online.

Oh what a sweetheart this Magic man is.  His looks alone will get your attention, but his super sweet personality will reel your heart all the way in.  His handsome dapple coloring is amazing. Now don’t forget … he is a dachshund mix, so understand that there is a fierce stubborn streak in there somewhere, but most of the time he is very cooperative. Dachshunds are also pretty vocal and he does use his 'big boy' bark (although not excessively), but he will probably not be the best apartment/condo/townhome resident.  He is a good boy and he plays well with his foster friends once he gets to know them, but he seems a bit wary of new, larger dogs.  Going to 'the dog park' might be a bit stressful for him, but once properly introduced, he does enjoy the company of another doggy friend.  Having a fenced yard and a doggy friend at his new home would make him happy!

We don’t know a lot about Magic’s past other than this is not his first time in a shelter/rescue.  He was adopted a couple of years ago, but recently showed up on a family’s doorstep and wasn’t interested in leaving.  Several weeks of attempts to find his owner were unsuccessful.  Circumstances made it impossible for these Good Samaritans to keep him but they did find a way to get him to AAMR so we could help him find a great new home.  So we are doing our best to get him adopted by a great family who will love him and care for him like the little prince that he is!  We have noticed that he does have some separation anxiety, which is not surprising given that he has been 'abandoned' by more than one family and he is a very sweet, people-loving pup who really wants human comfort.  We hope having a person who is home with him most of the time and/or having a dog that he bonds with to be with him when people are gone will help him.  In foster care he has both and does well, but he really deserves a forever family of his own.

If you have ever been loved by a doxie, you already know how 'magical' they are!

Approximate age/birthdate:  ~Sep 30 2019

Weight/size: 24 lbs (he will probably bulk up a little more, maybe to 30-35 lbs)

Housebroken:  YES as long as you do your part and take him out regularly and get him on a schedule.  When his separation anxiety kicks in, he will urinate inappropriately, but there are things that can be done to help this.

Crate trained:  YES – the crate is not his favorite place to stay, but he will do as you ask him to

Personality: a little wary at first, but once he knows he can trust you he is happy and sweet and playful

Energy level:  medium

Fenced yard required?:   Definitely preferred.  We know his history as a ‘wanderer’ so he should never be off-leash outside of a fenced area.

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk with manners:  YES – he will still pull when he wants to go exploring, but he responds well to correction. Using a good harness instead of just a collar helps also.

Obedience training:  NO but he is so smart and would probably really enjoy his new person taking him to an obedience class

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES as long as the other dogs are nice to him

Social with cats: Has not been around cats in foster home but the guess would be that he would be happy to chase a cat!

Good with children:  Respectful, calm children ages 10 and up will probably be a better fit for him.

Adoption donation:  $200

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Magic picks you too.

If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee, and an adoption contract to be signed.

Please feel free to email weluvpups@hotmail.com if you have additional questions.
