Sweet little Ella has had a rough life. By all accounts, prior to coming to AAMR, she had lived in multiple homes where she was forced to live outside and she has been abused by male humans. Her female humans loved her and tried to protect her. Despite all her fears, she is a super sweet and loving little girl when she is in the right environment for her. When she is stressed and fearful, she is 100% in flight mode and will bolt thru a door and run like the wind.

So … what is the perfect world for Ella. One where she lives with only women. One where she has a fenced yard. She would be fine with another small dog (not a rowdy youngster), but she gets stressed and nippy with larger dogs. We do not know how she would be with children, but would guess that she might be ok with an older, respectful girl, but probably not with boys. This sweet girl has apparently been through so much in her life, and we will be extra cautious about where we place her and will look for the situation that will be best and least stressful for her.

Approximate age/birthdate:  March 17, 2014

Weight/size: ~7.5 lbs (she is a mini Havanese and weighed less than 6 pounds when she came to us)

Housebroken:  YES – as long as you do your part and get her outside often (little dog, little bladder).

Crate trained:  YES

Personality: when she’s happy, she’s wonderful; when she’s scared, she will break your heart

Energy level:  medium

Fenced yard required?:   YES, a secure physical fence. (No underground or electric fence.)

Does he/she jump fences?  NO

Leash walk with manners:  YES, she does well leash walking

Obedience training:  No

Riding in vehicles:  RIDES OK     

Spayed/neutered:   YES

Up-to-date on routine vaccinations:   YES

Microchipped:   YES

Social with other dogs:  YES, prefers smaller dogs rather than larger ones

Social with cats: We do not know. She has not been around cats in foster care.

Good with children:  Will probably be best with respectful, calm female children ages 10 and up.

Adoption donation:  $175

We are an all-volunteer group, so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions and home visits.  You can expedite the process by providing accurate email addresses for all your references.  Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process.  We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible.

When your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit/meet-and-greet to see if Ella picks you too.
